Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), Md. Ruhul Amin Khan, visited various BADC-run irrigation projects in the upazilas of Sreenagar, Sirajdikhan, and Louhajang in Munshiganj on Saturday. 

In the morning, he visited three underground irrigation pipelines connected to shallow tube wells and a proposed hydraulic structure site at Birtara in Sreenagar upazila. He also held a meeting with local farmers.

In the afternoon, he inspected the proposed Taltola Canal at Kusumpur and a constructed hydraulic structure at Ichhapura in Sirajdikhan upazila.

Later in the day, he visited the re-excavated 4.50 km-long Baulatoli–Shurpara–Jangalia branch canal in Louhajang upazila. The canal, re-excavated this year under BADC, has helped eliminate waterlogging from about 1,500 acres of agricultural land in the areas of Baniagaon, Atigaon, Bejgaon, Baulatoli, Shurpara, and Jangalia.

Among those accompanying the BADC Chairman were:Md. Yusuf Ali, Director (Minor Irrigation), Md. Badiul Alam Sarkar, Chief Engineer (Minor Irrigation), Md. Badrul Alam, Chief Engineer (Construction), Mohammad Wahidul Islam, Executive Engineer of Dhaka Region, Dr. Md. Akikul Islam, Deputy Director of Dhaka Region, Md. Nesar Uddin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Louhajang, Ajay Kumar Roy, Assistant Engineer, BADC Munshiganj Omar Faruk Abak, Member of Munshiganj District BNP and others.

During the visit, the BADC Chairman stated that, based on the irrigation infrastructure demands of local farmers, a new project titled "Greater Dhaka Irrigation Area Development"—covering Munshiganj and five other districts—is currently under process at the Ministry of Agriculture. Once approved, all types of irrigation activities in the region will be implemented under this project.
