An awareness leaflet distribution and cleanliness program for dengue prevention was organized by the Coastal Sun Social Organization (USSOS).
The cleanliness programmes were held over a long period of time in the Khajurtola shelter project area of Barguna Sadar Upazila on Sunday.
It is learnt that as part of the program, leaflets on dengue prevention were distributed among the residents of the shelter project area and the surrounding drains and garbage-filled areas were cleaned. In addition to the volunteer members of USSAS, local residents also participated in this. In addition, volunteers from voluntary organizations in different areas of the district are working tirelessly day and night.
This program was implemented under the leadership of the Chief Executive of "USSAS" organization, Oliullah Imran. Present at the event were volunteer members of USSAS, Zahidul Islam, Md. Yasin, Md. Mohiuddin, Md. Jisan, Md. Oli, Md. Shahriar, Md. Zahidul, teachers of "USSAS Pathshala" Mosah Jannati, Mosah Mim Akhter and others.
Volunteers said as an awareness message to the locals, dengue is now not just a seasonal disease, it is one of the biggest public health challenges. Therefore, instead of relying only on treatment, our awareness must be the first defense.
The volunteers also said that the biggest tool to prevent dengue is awareness and cleanliness. If we all keep our homes and surroundings clean, then dengue can be prevented to a large extent. It will not be possible to rely only on the government or organizations. It is the responsibility of all of us. Therefore, I would like to request everyone to regularly clean the places where water is stagnant and make others aware.
Local residents welcomed this initiative by the USSAS, saying that if such initiatives were more widely spread, the incidence of dengue would be greatly reduced.
Oliullah Imran, Chief Executive of Coastal Sun Social Organization (USSOS), said, there is no alternative to awareness and cleanliness in preventing dengue. So today we distributed leaflets at Khajurtola shelter, cleaned the environment and made people aware. Our volunteers are working together."
In the cleanliness program, we have requested everyone to keep their homes and surroundings clean, remove stagnant water. This is not just the responsibility of the organization or the government, but of all of us. Dengue prevention is possible if we work together.
He further said, "USSAS has not only conducted dengue prevention but also relief and assistance activities in the past during cyclones, tidal waves and pandemic situations. We believe that these activities play an important role in building an aware and healthy society."
