Bangladesh Ansar members apprehended a mugger red-handed along with a sharp weapon and stolen valuables while he was attempting to flee Narsingdi 100-Bed District Hospital on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 12:00 pm after the suspect, identified as Abir, 27, snatched a mobile phone and wallet from a patient receiving treatment at the healthcare facility.
On-duty Ansar Platoon Commander (PC) Selim Mia and Assistant Platoon Commander (APC) Md. Billal Hossain acted swiftly upon the distress call, intercepting the suspect and recovering the stolen items alongside a sharp knife during a subsequent search. Following verification, the recovered mobile phone and wallet were promptly returned to their rightful owner, and the detained mugger was handed over to hospital authorities for legal action.
However, a humanitarian situation arose later when the suspect's family arrived at the hospital, revealing extreme poverty and distress. Considering their vulnerable condition, hospital authorities ultimately decided to release the individual into the custody of his family following a written undertaking and a nominal fine.
