A court in Bijoynagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria has rejected bail for Md. Jabedur Rahman, an assistant teacher of a government primary school, in a Dowry Prohibition Act case and sent him to jail.

On October 25, 2026, Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Mejbah Uddin Bhuiyan issued this order.

According to the case report, they got married in 2020 as per Islamic Sharia law. Both are assistant teachers at a government primary school. They have two daughters. Shortly after their marriage, the wife faced unbearable mental torture and dowry pressure from her teacher husband. Despite several family meetings to resolve the marital dispute, no solution was found. On the contrary, the accused teacher clearly stated that he would not start a family unless he brought 5 lakh taka as dowry from his in-laws.

On August 7, the teacher threw his wife and two daughters out of their house after she expressed her inability to pay the dowry. Later, the wife filed a case in the Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Court as a plaintiff, claiming innocence. After filing the case, the accused was granted temporary bail in the court on the condition of compromise. However, despite being granted bail in two phases, he did not compromise and prayed for permanent bail. After reviewing the statements of both parties, the court cancelled his temporary bail and ordered him to be sent to prison for violating the condition of compromise.

The order in the case mentioned that Md. Jabedur Rahman was on conditional bail in the case filed under Section 3 of the Dowry Prohibition Act of 2018. But the learned court ordered him to be sent to jail as he prayed for permanent bail without compromising.

In this regard, Mohammad Ali, the headmaster of Mohammadpur Government Primary School, said that the assistant teacher of his school is being shown absent in the attendance register as he is in jail in a dowry case. The matter has already been informed to the Upazila Education Officer.

Meanwhile, despite multiple calls and messages sent to Upazila Primary Education Officer Jahanara Khatun's mobile phone to seek her statement on the matter, she did not receive any response. On the other hand, it was not possible to obtain her statement as the accused teacher is in jail.
