Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) personnel detained an alleged child abductor and rescued a nine-month-old infant from the Secretariat Metro Rail station in the capital on Tuesday morning.

According to a press release signed by Md. Najmus Sakib, Assistant Director and Public Relations Officer of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, on-duty Ansar member Md. Shahin Miah noticed a man acting suspiciously at Platform 1 of the Secretariat station around 10:30 AM while carrying a continuously crying infant.

When Shahin Miah and nearby commuters questioned the man regarding the crying child, he failed to provide satisfactory answers. Shortly after, the suspect attempted to flee the station complex. Ansar member Shahin Miah gave chase and apprehended the suspect, identified as Rana, 40.

Following the apprehension, Embodied Ansar PC Md. Ripon Bepari notified the station controller. The suspect and the rescued infant were subsequently handed over to the MRT Police for legal proceedings and further investigation.

During initial police interrogation in the presence of Ansar personnel, the suspect confessed to stealing the infant from a slum in the city's Cantonment area. Authorities confirmed that efforts are currently underway to locate the child's parents and restore the infant safely to their custody.
