Allegations of immoral relationship against AL leader, madrasa teacher in Pabna

Pabna Correspondent

Pabna: Shamsul Alam Manju, former president of Awami League's Ataikula Union and assistant teacher of Shibpur Taha Islamia Fazil Madrasa, and Afroza Khatun, a lecturer at the same institution, have been accused of immoral and anti-social activities. After the incident came to light, the area has become agitated demanding their removal and exemplary punishment.

Local students, guardians and locals have formed human chains and protest marches. The program was held at the main gate of the madrasa on Tuesday (August 3). Later, the aggrieved locals and guardians submitted a written complaint to the madrasa authorities and the Atgharia UNO.

The protesters alleged that Manju Master used to exercise political influence during the previous Awami League government and regularly collected government salaries and allowances by pretending to be a teacher. Although there were multiple allegations of misdeeds against him in the past, no one dared to speak out due to fear.

Even after the fall of the government, he did not stop his misdeeds. Local guardians said that Manju Master recently got involved in an affair with Afroza Khatun, a controversial teacher of the same madrasa. Various information and evidence of their relationship have been spread on social media. Even after receiving evidence of their immoral relationship, Manju Master's wife Sharmin Alam has also left the house and protested. In such a situation, students, guardians and locals are in an extremely embarrassing situation and feel uncomfortable sending their children to the madrasa.

A madrasa teacher, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the immoral relationship between Manju Master and Afroza Khatun is an 'open secret' in the area. They are doing a shameful act in a noble profession like teaching.

"Despite multiple allegations of immoral relationships against both of them in the past, they have managed the madrasa authorities and are still in power. We are extremely ashamed and embarrassed by this."
Some local residents, including Rahimul Islam, said that there are several complaints about Afroza Madam. Earlier, we were receiving complaints about a bad relationship with another master. Earlier, this madam also had problems with her previous husband. She took about 50 lakh rupees from him. We also have documents to prove it. Now, Manju is starting a relationship with the master. However, dirty people like them are still doing the mastership in the name of power. The madrasa authorities are not saying anything.

It has been found that after the fall of the Awami League government, Manju Master did not attend the madrasa for almost a year, but with the help of the madrasa administration, he regularly collected his salary. On the other hand, teacher Afroza Khatun's husband, Mohiul Alam, committed suicide in 2020. Later, Afroza married a second time, but kept it a secret and embezzled her deceased husband's government pension. Her pension was stopped after the matter was published in the media in 2025.

According to documents attached to the complaint, Afroza Khatun herself admitted to engaging in an immoral relationship in a case she filed with the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal in 2026 over the publication of obscene videos and conflicts over a love affair.

Regarding her husband's immoral relationship, Shamsul Alam Manjur Master's wife Sharmin Alam said, "For the past one year, there has been extreme discord in the family due to my husband's relationship with Afroza Madam. Despite repeated prohibitions, they did not stop. Recently, after receiving evidence of their secret intimate relationship, I left home in disgust. I hate to think of such a job in a noble profession like teaching. I want them punished."

When an attempt was made to speak to teacher Afroza Khatun about the allegations, she refused to comment. When media personnel tried to speak to her at the madrasa, she cleverly slipped out the back door.

However, Shamsul Alam Manju has claimed that all the allegations against him are false. He said, "My wife wants to take the property in her own name by depriving her first-born child. She is making false allegations because she is not giving it to him. The locals have been misled. I have never been involved in any immoral relationship."

The principal of Shibpur Taha Islamia Fazil Madrasa could not be reached on the spot regarding this matter. Vice-Principal Abdul Alim expressed his inability to comment and said, "These are their personal matters. We have nothing to say or do about this."

Atgharia UNO Tahmidul Islam said, "I have not been able to open the postal file yet. As a result, I am not yet sure about the written complaint. However, if we receive a complaint, we will talk to the locals and investigate and take necessary action against those teachers."
