AL should reconsider decision on seat-sharing: Inu

Staff Correspondent

Leaders of 14-party alliance said that the Awami League (AL) should reconsider the decision on seat-sharing with the partners.

They said that the partners of Awami League want to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the President of ruling AL, on seat-sharing issue.

In response to a question about the potential outcome if reconsideration is not agreed upon, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haq Inu said, “Let’s wait to see the outcome of the reconsideration, and then we will give the answer.”

Hasanul Haq Inu said this while talking to journalists on Friday after a programme at the Jatiya Press Club.

He said, “We demanded to reconsider the issue of seat distribution. The seven seats that have been proposed need to be increased.”

Taking Amir Hossain Amur’s proposal as a preliminary bid, Inu demanded to announce the final list through a meeting with the Prime Minister.

The Jasad President also said that the AL’s independent candidates should be withdrawn from the seats where 14-party alliance candidates are contesting.

Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said that it is not possible to increase seats and withdraw independent candidates.

Responding to Obaidul Quader’s statement in this connection Inu said, “Amir Hossain Amu and the Awami League General Secretary expressed their own views. We, on the other hand, have voiced our demand for reconsideration of the proposal.”
