8 fishermen fined in Lalmohan, 11 thousand meters net seized

An operation has been conducted to protect mother hilsa in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola. The operation was conducted under the leadership of Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Ehsanul Haque Shipon in Tentulia river adjacent to Badarpur and Farajganj Union of upazila from 8 pm to 3 am on Tuesday.
In the operation, 8 fishermen were arrested for fishing in the river in violation of the ongoing ban to protect the mother hilsa. Later those arrested fishermen were fined a total of 23 thousand five hundred taka through the mobile court.
11,000 meters of nets and two fishing trawlers were also seized in the operation. Later the seized nets were burnt and destroyed and the two trawlers were entrusted to the upazila fisheries office for auction.
Lalmohan Upazila Fisheries Officer Ali Ahmad Akhand and many others were present during the operation.
