3 die, another 1186 hospitalised with dengue fever in Bangladesh

Three people have died of dengue, while 1,186 more patients been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease throughout Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.

The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 469 were admitted to hospital in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Wednesday morning.

In addition, 254 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 41 in the Mymensingh Division, 136 in the Chattogram Division, 104 in the Khulna Division, 69 in the Rajshahi Division, 14 in Rangpur Division, 4 in the Sylhet Division, and 95 in the Barishal Division.

With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 45,950 this year. A total of 226 people died among them.

As many as 3,697 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. They include 1,759 in the capital and 1,938 outside Dhaka.

The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.

Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
