Locals recovered the bodies of seven people from the three-storey house of former councillor Md Shah Alam in Ashoktala of Cumilla city. The agitators set fire to the house around 8 pm on Monday. The body was buried after the funeral prayers on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses said that a little before 8 pm, more than half a hundred protesters attacked the house of former councillor Shah Alam in Ashoktala, Cumilla city. At that time, some agitators went to the third floor of the house. Other agitators set fire to the ground floor of the house. Agitators staying on the third floor of the house blocked the water supply and some died in the fire. Ashok (14), Shakeel (14), Shaon (12), Mahfuzur Rahman Mukul (22), Roni (16) and Mohin (17) of Ashoktala area were killed in the fire. At least 10 people were injured in this incident.

One of them is seriously injured and has been kept in ICU. Meanwhile, two students named Nafizul Alam Sami (18) and Chouddagram Jamshed were killed in Talpukurpar area of Cumilla city on Monday afternoon. Besides, the body of a policeman was brought from Titas police station to Cumilla Medical College Hospital. Saiful Alam Roni, former president of Cumilla District Cricket Committee, said that a group of people came and attacked his house on Monday afternoon. At that time, Nafizul Alam beat and stabbed Sami to death.

Later the angry people ransacked his house. Director of Cumilla Medical College Hospital Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that 75 people were brought to Cumilla Medical College Hospital from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning. 35 of whom are still enrolled.

The rest went home with treatment. Besides, the bodies of a student from Chauddagram and a priest from Titus were brought to the hospital yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, District Commissioner Khandaker Mushfiqur Rahman and Superintendent of Police Md Saidul Islam were called several times on mobile phones to inquire about the overall situation of the district, but they did not respond.
