Fakirhat Model Police arrested 5 members of an inter-district robbery gang with country-made weapons while preparing for a robbery in Fakirhat, Bagerhat.

A case was filed in this incident on Friday.

Police said that at 1:30 am on Thursday, a group of robbers took up position with a pickup truck on the Khulna-Mongla highway in front of the Lakhpur Rural Power Substation in Fakirhat Upazila. Upon receiving this information from a confidential source, Fakirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Alamgir Kabir sent a team of duty police to the spot. Sensing the presence of the police, the members of the robbery gang tried to run away, leaving the pickup truck behind. During this time, the police chased them and managed to arrest 5 members of the robbery gang. Later, they searched their pickup van and seized Burmese knives, chapatis, hydraulic cutters, large knives, sabers, etc. used in the robbery.

Fakirhat Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Md. Ashiq Reza led the arrest of the organized gang of robbers. He said that the arrested are active members of an inter-district robbery gang. There are multiple theft and robbery cases against them in different police stations. At the time of the incident, the robbers admitted to the police that they were preparing for a robbery in the Lakhpur area. A case has been filed in Fakirhat Model Police Station against the five arrested and several unknown people. Case No. 12. Dated 31/01/2025.

The members of the arrested gang of robbers are Md. Emdadul Akon (32), son of Yunus Akon of Piljang village of the upazila. It is known that he currently rents a house in Labanchara, Khulna. Besides, Rabiul Sheikh (28), son of the deceased Khokon Sheikh of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila, Nazmul Hossain Bappi (22), son of Babar Ali Gazi of Khulna's Loanthara area, Shahidul Sheikh (40), son of Ishaq Sheikh of Ramnagar area of Rupsha Upazila, and Masud Sheikh (28), son of Abu Taleb Sheikh of the same area.

OC of Fakirhat Model Police Station SM Alamgir Kabir said, "Five members of the inter-district robber gang have been arrested with country-made weapons. They were sent to jail by a learned court on Friday afternoon.
