3 electrocuted in Dhaka during stormy night

Three people, including a teenage girl, were electrocuted in separate incidents in the capital on Monday night during heavy rain with gusty winds caused by cyclone Remal.

Two people were electrocuted in Khilgaon Thana area and the third in Jatrabari. They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the on-duty doctors eclared them dead, said inspector Bachchu Miah of the hospital's police outpost.

The deceased were Liza Akhtar, 15, daughter of Md Siraj Khan of Noakhali's Charjabbar upazila, but she used to live with her family in a rented house at Jatrabari; Marium Begum and rickshaw driver Rakib.

According to victim Liza's sister Mariam, Liza was electrocuted while she touched the tin fence around the house and fell unconscious. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical around 10:30pm, but the emergency department doctors informed them that she had died before they arrived at the hospital.

A 45-year-old woman named Marium Begum was electrocuted around 11pm was she was walking through a puddle of water that had been electrified by a power pole in Ice Cream Alley in the Shipahibag area of Khilgaon. She then fell unconscious.

A local man named Nahid said he brought Marium to the hospital. After examining, the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old rickshaw driver named Rakib was electrocuted in Khilgaon's Taltola while charging his battery-powered rickshaw. He then fell unconscious. Locals rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11:30pm where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
