At the end of the nomination scrutiny process for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, a total of 16 candidates’ nomination papers were rejected across five parliamentary constituencies in Gaibandha.
After the two-day scrutiny, 29 candidates were declared valid.
According to election office sources, a total of 45 candidates submitted nomination papers in the five constituencies of Gaibandha ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
On the first day (Friday) of scrutiny, nomination papers of eight candidates were rejected—five from Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) and three from Gaibandha-2 (Gaibandha Sadar).
On the second and final day (Saturday), the election authorities rejected the nomination papers of three candidates from Gaibandha-3 (Palashbari–Sadullapur), one from Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj), and four from Gaibandha-5 (Saghata–Phulchhari). Thus, eight nominations were rejected on the final day.
Among the rejected candidates, in Gaibandha-3 (Palashbari–Sadullapur), three candidates were disqualified: Manjurul Haque of Janata Dal, and independent candidates Azizar Rahman and SM Khademul Islam Khudi.
In Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj), the nomination of independent candidate Abdur Rauf Akand was rejected.
Additionally, in Gaibandha-5 (Saghata–Phulchhari), four candidates’ nominations were rejected: Sri Nirmal of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, Samiul Islam of Gono Odhikar Parishad, and independent candidates Sujauzzaman Saju and Hasan Mehdi Bidyut.
Returning Officer and Gaibandha District Commissioner Mohammad Masudur Rahman Molla shared the information with journalists at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He stated that the nominations were rejected due to errors and inconsistencies in the submitted documents.
He further added that the rejected candidates have the right to appeal. According to Election Commission rules, they may file appeals within the stipulated time. After the appeals are resolved, the final list of candidates will be published, and subsequent election activities will proceed accordingly.
