On Friday, April 10, 2009, while serving as a Senior Police Inspector at Benapole Immigration in Jessore, he suddenly fell ill in the early hours of the morning. He was initially admitted to Jessore 250-Bed General Hospital and later, on the advice of doctors, was being taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Dhaka by an ambulance of the Jessore Police Hospital for advanced treatment. However, as the ambulance reached Faridpur Mor on the Dhaka–Jessore highway, he breathed his last upon hearing the sacred call to the Jummah prayer.
At the time of his death, he left behind his wife, three sons, one daughter, and numerous relatives and well-wishers.
He was born into a respectable Muslim family in the village of Dumdia Madhyapara under Ward No. 7 of Urfi Union in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila. His father's name was the late Syed Ali Kazi and his mother's name was the late Halima Khatun. Syed Ali Kazi was a devout farmer and small businessman. Among nine sons, Akbar Hossain Kazi was the second eldest. Before joining the police force, he was engaged in teaching. Later, upon the advice of his nephew, the late Assistant Superintendent of Police Molla Nazrul Islam from Dariyala village in Mollahat Upazila, Bagerhat district, both uncle and nephew joined the police force together.
In addition to his professional duties, he excelled in football and volleyball. In his personal life, he was known for his friendly nature, helpfulness, and integrity. Even after joining the police, he continued to perform his duties with honesty, dedication, and distinction. He earned multiple certificates and awards for his service and sporting achievements—now cherished as fond memories.
He was the proud father of journalists KM Shafiqul Rahman, KM Saifur Rahman, and Kazi Selim Nayan, and the proud grandfather of journalist Kazi Fardeen Rahman.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of his 16th death anniversary, special prayers and supplications will be held after Jummah prayers on Friday, April 11, at the BSCIC Industrial Area Jame Mosque and Dumdia Madhyapara Jame Mosque in Gopalganj.
