The Coast Guard has rescued 14 fishermen along with a fishing trawler that was drifting in the sea due to engine failure in Hatiya, Noakhali.

This information was provided in a press release by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque on Thursday night.

According to the press release, on Saturday (19 July), a fishing trawler named ‘FB Jamila’ went to sea with 14 fishermen for fishing. Later, due to mechanical failure, the trawler's engine broke down, and it drifted at sea for five days. Subsequently, on Thursday, 24 July, at 1 a.m., the fishermen of the trawler called the emergency service number 999 and sought help, upon which the Coast Guard was informed.

Based on the received information, the Coast Guard Station Hatiya immediately conducted a rescue operation and recovered the fishing trawler along with 14 fishermen from the Ganguriya sea area under Hatiya police station in Noakhali.

The rescued fishermen and the trawler were safely brought to the Surjomukhi Ghat of Nalchira, and one sick fisherman was given first aid by the Coast Guard and later sent to the local health complex.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard regularly conducts operations to ensure the safety of coastal and riverside areas. Such rescue operations will continue in the future as well.
