12 nominations cancelled, 2 suspended in 3 constituencies in Gopalganj

In view of the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election, the verification of nomination papers of candidates in three parliamentary constituencies of Gopalganj district has been completed. After the verification, the nominations of 12 out of a total of 38 candidates have been declared cancelled. In addition, the nominations of two candidates have been suspended. 24 have been considered as valid candidates.
District Returning Officer Md. Arif Uzzaman announced these decisions after scrutiny at the Deputy Commissioner's office on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Returning Office, the nominations of several candidates in different constituencies have been canceled due to defaults and discrepancies in the signatures of one percent of voters.
A total of 13 nomination papers were submitted in Gopalganj-1 constituency (part of Muksudpur and Kashiani upazilas). Out of these, the nominations of independent candidates Nazmul Alam and Ashraful Alam, AB Party candidate Md. Prince Al Amin, and People's Rights Council (GOP) candidate Md. Kabir Mia were declared cancelled.
Six out of the 13 nomination papers submitted in Gopalganj-2 constituency, which comprises Sadar Upazila and a part of Kashiani Upazila, have been rejected. The rejected candidates are: Independent candidate Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan (Lutul), Roni Molya, Sipon Bhuiyan, Mashiur Rahman, Md. Sirajul Islam (Siraj) and Utpal Biswas.
Twelve nomination papers were submitted in the Gopalganj-3 constituency comprising Tungipara and Kotalipara upazilas. Of these, the nominations of independent candidates Govinda Chandra Pramanik and Rowshan Ara were cancelled. In addition, the nominations of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis candidate Abdul Aziz and independent candidate Dulal Chandra Biswas were declared suspended.
The District Election Office said that those whose nominations have been cancelled or suspended can appeal to the Election Commission by January 11. The last day for withdrawal of nominations is January 20 and the symbols will be allotted on January 21. The 13th National Parliament elections are scheduled to be held on February 12.
