
‘July Women’s Day’ celebrated at Dhaka University

‘July Women’s Day’ was celebrated at Dhaka University on Monday night through various programmes, recognising the role of women during the July uprising.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem at the Central Shaheed Minar on Monday evening.
Later, a documentary, portraying the role of women in the uprising, prepared by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and two other documentaries-‘Speaking’ and ‘July Bishad Sindhu’ were screened at the event.
Singer Farzana Wahid Shayan fascinated the audience through her melodious performance there.
A family member from the July martyrs and a DU female teacher, who was involved with the uprising, recalled the horror memories of those days and urged all to remain all united.
The DU administration organised the event marking the first anniversary of the uprising, with the help of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The campus was decorated with several placards and festoons depicting the moments of the July uprising.
At midnight, a drone show featuring various protest images and slogans of the uprising was displayed in the sky.
Satirical quotes of Sheikh Hasina- ‘If children of freedom fighters don’t get it, will the grandchildren of Razakars get it then?’, ‘Delete the post, there will be trouble,’, ‘Who are you, who am I? Razakar, Razakar’, ‘Motherland or death,’ etc. were displayed.
Besides, portraits of Buet student Abrar Fahad, who was brutally killed by then Chhatra League men at a hall, and a female student of Dhaka University, who was tortured by the organisation on July 15 last year, were displayed to honour the victims of torture during Sheikh Hasina’s last regime.
Sheikh Hasina fled the country amid the intense student movement that ultimately ousted the government on August 5.
