The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued 17 fishermen from the fishing boat "FB Masuda Shaheen," which had been adrift at sea for four days after its shaft failed.
This information was given on Thursday by Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque, Coast Guard Media Officer in a press release.
The press release stated that on Sunday, the fishing boat "FB Masuda Shaheen," with 17 fishermen on board, departed from the Chittagong Fishery Ghat area to go fishing. On the night of September 7, the boat's shaft broke, leaving it disabled and adrift at sea for four days. After the boat came within mobile network range, on Wednesday at 1 p.m., one of the fishermen on board called the Coast Guard's emergency service number, 16111, to request assistance.
This is how the Coast Guard became aware of the situation.
Based on the information received, a rescue operation was launched at 9 a.m. today, Thursday by the Coast Guard ship Shyamal Bangla. During the operation, the disabled boat and all 17 fishermen were safely rescued and provided with initial medical aid and necessary food.
The process of handing over the rescued fishermen and the fishing boat to its owners is currently underway.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue to conduct such rescue operations in the future in service of humanity, the press release added.
