A human chain was organized in front of the National Press Club on Thursday, demanding the dismissal of Awami loyalists and corrupt officials allegedly involved in job trading and irregular transfers at Bangladesh Open University (BOU).

The program was jointly initiated by the AB Party and Gazipur Metropolitan Committee of the Anti-Corruption Unity Council.

The event was presided over by Alhaj Engineer Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, Convenor of the organizing committee, and conducted by Md. Mintu Mia of the State Reform Movement.

Retired Lt. Colonel Didarul Alam, Central Vice Chairman of the AB Party, attended as the chief guest.

Special guests were Ahsan Habib of the Khelafat Andolon.

Others spoke at the program were Masud Jomaddar Rana, Member Secretary of the AB Party’s Gazipur District and Metropolitan Unit; Maulana Khairul Islam of Islami Andolon; Md. Saiful Alam Chowdhury, Central Leader of the Bhashani Janashakti Party; Md. Kamal Uddin of Nagorik Oikya; and Md. Abu Hanif of the Biplobi Waqas Party.

Md. Sohel Mia, Rashed Sardar, Enamul Haque, Harun Hawlader, along with activists from 14 different political parties were present.

In his address, chief guest Didarul Alam said,
“BOU officials including Engineer Md. Shahriar Sahan, Rana Hamidur Rahman, Mustaq Ahmed, Md. Abdul Hye, Swapan Dutta, and Zahidul Islam are Awami loyalists. They must be dismissed. The blood of anti-discrimination student activists was shed to eliminate corruption, nepotism, and irregularities from society. Yet today, corruption has penetrated every sector. For the past 15 years, Bangladesh Open University has turned into a haven of corruption, and these corrupt elements remain in power. Until they are removed, our movement will continue.”
