The government is working towards creating 10 million employment opportunities at home and abroad. To achieve this goal, the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh is emphasizing on enhancing cooperation between universities, industry and commercial institutions, along with making the youth skilled.

UGC member Prof Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the roundtable discussion and MoU signing ceremony titled 'Industry-Academia Collaboration Initiatives' organized at Comilla University on Tuesday.

Comilla University and 42 leading institutions participated in the event. Later, six memorandums of understanding were signed between the university and the participating institutions.

Prof Abdullah-al-Mamun said, "It is not enough to produce graduates with academic knowledge alone, but they must be given the opportunity to acquire skills relevant to the workplace. The UGC is working to create mandatory internship and job opportunities for students to develop a skilled workforce according to the needs of the industry."

The UGC member said that initiatives are being taken to provide innovation funds and startup support to develop students as entrepreneurs, adding that this will further strengthen the connection between the university's knowledge, research, and innovation with industry and the economy.

Comilla University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. M. M. Shariful Karim presided over the program, while the university's Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Mohammad Amjad Hossain Sarkar and Treasurer Prof Dr. Mohammad Belal Uddin and other concerned persons spoke.
