Two people, including AL leader, arrested with 1.4 million fake Indian rupees in Naogaon

Police arrested two people including Awami League leaders Siddiq Hossain Molla (45) and Cariappa Chowdhury (55), with 13.75 lakh Indian rupees in Manda, Naogaon. They were arrested at around 2 pm on Tuesday while they were trading at a tea shop in Gopalpur Bazar of Paranpur Union of the upazila.

Later, the Manda police confirmed the matter at a press conference.

The arrested are Siddique Hossain Molla (45), son of Mujibur Rahman Molla of Gopalpur Bazar area of the upazila and organizing secretary of Paranpur Union A'League, and Cariappa Chowdhury (55), a resident of the neighboring Mahadevpur Upazila Sadar and a chatal trader.

It was said in the press conference that a smart team of police was deployed based on information that a fraudster gang has been dealing in fake Indian rupees in this area for a long time. Under the direction of the District Superintendent of Police, a raid was conducted at Gopalpur Bazar around 2 pm on Tuesday and Siddique Mollah and Cariappa Chowdhury were arrested. During this, 13 lakh 75 thousand fake Indian rupees were recovered from them. It was also said that preparations are underway to file a case under the Special Powers Act in this incident.

Present at the time were Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police of Manda Circle Zakirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Manda Police Station Mansur Rahman, Inspector Investigation Abdul Gani, SI Shamim Hossain and other officials.
