
Two killed as dump truck hits moving lorry in Mirsarai

Two people were killed when a dump truck rammed into the rear of a moving container lorry in Mirsarai, Chattogram.
The accident occurred at around 7:30 am on Sunday on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway near Thakurdighi Bazar adjacent to the Union Board Office in Ward No. 8 of the upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Md. Faruk Hossain (39), the driver of the dump truck and son of Abdul Mannan of Bosu Mia Para in Matiranga upazila of Khagrachari district, and Robiul Islam (35), the driver’s assistant and son of Anwarul Islam of Chaktail area in Delduar upazila of Tangail district.
According to sources, on Sunday morning, the scrap-laden dump truck was attempting to overtake when it struck the rear of a moving container lorry on the Dhaka-bound lane, north of Thakurdighi Bazar. The front part of the truck was completely mangled. The driver and his assistant died on the spot.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Borhan Uddin of Jorarganj Highway Police Station said the driver and his assistant were killed after the dump truck collided with the rear of the moving lorry. The bodies have been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The vehicles have been taken into custody. Further legal action will be taken upon investigation.
