
Teenager loses leg in landmine explosion at Naikhongchhari Border

A teenager named Arafatul Islam (17) lost his leg in a landmine explosion in the Jamchhari border area of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban.
The incident took place around 12:00 PM on Sunday at Zero Line adjacent to Border Pillar No. 44 in Jamchhari, confirmed Nurul Absar Imon, former chairman of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union.
The injured, Arafatul Islam (17), is the son of Khuillya Mia from the Jamchhari area of Ward No. 8 under Naikhongchhari Sadar Union.
Former chairman Nurul Absar Imon said that Arafat was collecting bamboo with his father in the border area when he accidentally stepped on a landmine. The explosion resulted in the complete severing of one of his legs. Locals immediately rescued him, provided initial treatment, and later rushed him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced care.
Naikhongchhar UNO Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury has confirmed the incident.
