Talent student dies by poisoning after failing to get medical admission in Muksudpur

Kazi Ohid, Muksudpur (Gopalganj)

A talented student named Imun Biswas took his own life by consuming poison after failing to secure admission to an MBBS (medical) program in Muksudpur.

According to family sources, Imun Biswas, son of Subas Chandra Biswas, a teacher at Hinduhat Haldhar High School and resident of Khort village in Banshbari Union, Muksudpur Upazila, had an impressive academic record. He earned a Talentpool scholarship in Class 5 at the 189 No. Government Thullapara Primary School and a general scholarship in Class 8 at Hadiuzzaman Memorial High School. He achieved a Golden A+ in his SSC exams in 2021 from the same school and an A+ in his HSC exams in 2023 from Dhaka Milestone College. This year, he appeared for the MBBS admission test but did not secure a place.

Distraught over his failure, Imun consumed Paraxen, a herbicide used for weed control, at his home on the night of May 11 at around 11 PM. When his family realized what had happened, they rushed him to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex.

Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. As his condition remained life-threatening, he was further transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he passed away at 6 PM on May 13 while undergoing treatment.

Imun Biswas’s death has left his family engulfed in grief.
