
Suharwardy Udayn gate closed : DU declares mourning day today following student’s death

Dhaka University has declared Thursday (May 15) as a mourning day following the death of Shahriar Alam Samya, a meritorious student of the Institute of Education and Research. All classes and examinations will remain suspended until 1:00 PM on that day. However, administrative offices will operate as usual.
The decision was made at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan in the chair.

In a related development, the university administration held another emergency meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss overall campus security and the situation around Suhrawardy Udyan, adjacent to TSC.
The meeting, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, was attended by key stakeholders including:

Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Md Nazrul Islam, Secretary of the Local Government Division Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Md Shahjahan Mia and
representatives from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)
