DU mourns death of brilliant student Shahriar Samya, urges exemplary punishment

The Dhaka University (DU) administration has expressed deep concern and sorrow over the tragic death of Shahriar Alam Samya, a bright student of the Institute of Education and Research, who was fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants near Suhrawardy Udyan opposite the Bangla Academy late on Tuesday night.
Following the attack, Shahriar was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji'un.
The university community is deeply shocked and mourns the untimely death of one of its most promising students. Immediately after the incident, DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof. Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, and Proctor Associate Prof Saifuddin Ahmed visited DMCH to express condolences to the grieving family on behalf of the university.
They also spoke directly with senior police officials, urging swift action to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and given exemplary punishment. Within four hours of the incident, police confirmed the arrest of three suspects, with operations ongoing to capture others involved.
The DU administration is actively pursuing legal procedures to ensure justice and is in the process of filing a formal case with Shahbagh Police Station. Besides , the university has pledged full legal and logistical support to the bereaved family during this difficult time.
