Students form human chain protesting construction of college gate in Tongibari

Md. Masum, Tongibari (Munshiganj)

Teachers, students and people from all walks of life of the college and Baligaon High School in Tongibari, Munshiganj have formed a human chain demanding punishment for Zaid Bin Kalam, who is accused of embezzling land from Baligaon Amjad Ali College.

This human chain was held in front of the college adjacent to Baligaon Bazar in the upazila on Tuesday  afternoon.

The speakers in the human chain said that there are about 3,000 students in this college and school. Since the college is adjacent to the market, many outsiders come and go, so the construction of a gate has started for the safety of the students. Just then, a malicious group obstructed the construction of the gate. And filed a false case. We strongly condemn and protest it. And we want justice for this miscreant land grabber.

They further informed through a press release that since its establishment in 2003, the college has been occupying 293 dags of land. Out of the 32 percent land, 3.23 percent of land was donated to the college by Amjad Ali's three sons Abul Kalam Mia, Md. Abul Bashar Mia, Md. Abul Khair Mia. The main gate of the college is being built within that area. The petition filed by the plaintiff Zaid bin Kalam is completely baseless and has intentionally obstructed the construction of the college gate. It is to be noted that according to Section 9 of the Transfer of Transferred Property Act 2001, 32 percent of land out of 293 dags is in the possession of the college. Which is surrounded by a wall with the funds allocated by the District Council and the gate under construction is being built on the college's own land. In such a situation, the claim of the complainant Zaid bin Kalam is unreasonable, baseless and conspiratorial, which is disrupting the normal educational activities and development work of the college.

College principal SM Anisul Haque said, "We started building the college gate thinking about the safety of the college students. But a person named Zaid bin Kalam is an obstacle to this great work. However, this place was donated to the college by his parents and uncles. Education is the backbone of the nation and Zaid bin Kalam has hit that backbone. We want him to be brought under the law quickly and punitive action should be taken against him."

Class 12 student Zakia said, "Today's human chain is to demand punishment for those who misled the administration and encroached on the college land." Baligaon Amjad Ali College is not just an institution, it is the address of our dreams. The miscreant, miscreant and land grabber Zaid bin Kalam has become an obstacle to our development. But remember, those who want to block the gate of education are blocking their own future. Our demand is only one: we want our gate, we want our respect. We want punishment for the miscreant Zaid bin Kalam who is against the construction of this gate."

More than five hundred students, including teachers and staff of the college, participated in the human chain.

The Tongibari UNO  said, I am aware of this matter. I tried to convince the plaintiff by sitting with both parties. But the plaintiff is reluctant to build the gate.
