Shibir leader stabbed to death over  school committee election in Saghata

A local leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir was allegedly stabbed to death by Jubo Dal activists over a dispute surrounding the election of the president of the management committee of Kochua Government Primary School in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha.
 
The incident took place on Sunday afternoon at Bonarpara Chourasta.
 
 
 The deceased, Saiful Islam Bari (24), was the president of Bonarpara Union Chhatra Shibir and the son of Habibur Rahman of Shimul Tair village. He was also a third-year Honors student at Rangpur Dhap Satdarga Kamil Alia Madrasa. Another Shibir activist, Salauddin, sustained serious injuries in the attack.
 
According to eyewitnesses and local residents, an argument broke out at Bonarpara Central Jame Mosque intersection between Kochua Government Primary School head teacher Habibullah and Mukul, son of Jahidul Islam of Bati village, regarding the election of the school's management committee president.
At one stage, Saiful Islam and Salauddin protested the incident. 
 
Local residents immediately rescued the victims and took them to Saghata Upazila Health Complex. Due to the severity of his injuries, Saiful Islam was later transferred to Gaibandha General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
 
Meanwhile, the injured Salauddin was referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where he remains in critical condition.
 
Following the incident, several leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir, including district Jamaat Ameer Abdul Karim, district Nayeb-e-Ameer Freedom Fighter Abdul Warech, Acting District Secretary Syed Rokonuzzaman, District Shibir President Yusuf Al Qaravi, District Secretary Fahim Islam, and Saghata Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Ibrahim Ali, issued separate statements condemning the killing and demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
 
Gaibandha Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin visited the crime scene and instructed law enforcement agencies to take necessary measures to apprehend the suspects involved in the murder.
 
Saghata Police Station OC  Mahbub Alam said that tension remains high in the area following the killing. 
 
Gaibandha District Islami Chhatra Shibir and Saghata Upazila Chhatra Shibir separately organized demonstrations and protest marches demanding justice.
