Former Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, has been placed on a two-day remand by the court in connection with the Sajal murder case that occurred during the mass uprising of students and citizens in Siddhirganj. Additionally, the court has ordered her to be shown arrested in an attempted murder case filed in Fatullah.

 On Wednesday (June 18), Senior Judicial Magistrate Main Uddin Kadir of the Narayanganj district court gave the order after hearings on both cases. Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy joined the court proceedings virtually from Kashimpur Women's Prison in Gazipur.

 According to court sources, the police had sought a seven-day remand for Ivy for the sake of investigation in the Sajal murder case. Her lawyers, however, applied for bail. After the hearing, the court rejected the bail plea and granted a two-day remand.

 Later, in the Saeed attempted murder case filed with Fatullah police station, the police applied to show Dr. Ivy as arrested, which the court approved.

 Regarding the matter, Court Police Inspector Mohammad Kaiyum Khan said, “Following the hearings in both cases, the judge granted remand in one and approved the show-arrest in the other.”

 On the other hand, Dr. Ivy’s lawyer Advocate Awlad Hossain stated, “The FIRs of both cases do not mention any direct involvement of Dr. Ivy. She has been implicated purely out of political rivalry and to harass her. By denying bail and granting remand, we have been deprived of justice.”

 It is worth noting that on May 9, Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy was arrested from her residence in West Deobhog, Narayanganj city. Following a court order, she was sent to Kashimpur Women’s Prison. She currently faces a total of six cases, including murder and attempted murder, filed at Siddhirganj and Fatullah police stations.
