Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hasan has  formally assumed charge as the Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard on Thursday succeeding outgoing Director General Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque.

The official handing and taking-over ceremony took place at the Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters in Dhaka, where the newly appointed chief formally took charge by signing the official handover document in the presence of senior military officials.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this in a press release. 

Rear Admiral Moinul Hasan joined the Bangladesh Navy on July 1, 1989, and received his commission in the Executive Branch on January 1, 1992. Over his career, he completed military training and academic programs, graduating from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Mirpur, the National Defence College (NDC) in Mirpur, the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, India, and the Naval Command College at the US Naval War College in Rhode Island. He holds Master of Science degrees in Defence Studies from National University, Bangladesh, and Strategic Studies from Tamil Nadu University, India, and is currently pursuing a PhD at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).

Prior to his current appointment, Rear Admiral Moinul Hasan served in senior command and staff roles, including Commander Chattogram Naval Area (COMCHIT), Commander Bangladesh Naval Fleet (COMBAN), inaugural Commandant of the Navy Training and Doctrine Command (NATDOC), and Commodore Naval Aviation (COMNAV). He has commanded a corvette, two Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), three Fast Attack Craft (FACs), and a missile boat, while also serving as Commanding Officer of the Flying Wing.

At Naval Headquarters, he held position  as Director of Naval Planning, Director of Naval Aviation, and Naval Secretary, along with  serving as Deputy Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard under the Ministry of Home Affairs. He served as a military observer for the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) from 2007 to 2008 and represented the Bangladesh Navy at international military exercises and defense expos.

In recognition of his service, he has been decorated with the Navy Medal (NBP), the Outstanding Service Medal (BSP), and the Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal (BCGM).
