Dhaka District Law and Order Committee decides strict drives against drugs, illegal occupation

The Dhaka District Law and Order Coordination Committee has decided to launch stern administrative measures to improve law and order and accelerate ongoing development projects across the district.
Presided over by Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam, the meeting prioritized immediate action against drug proliferation, juvenile delinquency, illegal street encroachments, and unregulated traffic operations.
Public representatives and law enforcement officials highlighted pressing civic issues, emphasizing joint administrative operations alongside social awareness campaigns. To eradicate illegal drugs, police authorities were instructed to intensify drives across the district to dismantle dealer networks. The committee also resolved to form coordinated social initiatives involving parents, teachers, public representatives, and citizens to counter theft, mugging, organized crime, and juvenile gang activities.
Traffic congestion caused by battery-powered autorickshaws was discussed, with participants stressing the need to bring these vehicles under a formal licensing and regulatory framework. The committee further resolved to initiate eviction drives along city footpaths and roadsides to restore pedestrian access by clearing unauthorized shops and illegal structures.
Reviewing regional infrastructure projects, the chair directed field officials to report sluggish development works to higher authorities immediately and ensured regular monitoring of ongoing initiatives. The committee decided to conduct monthly review meetings to track law and order status and development progress.
MP Khondokar Abu Ashfaq (Dhaka-1), Dr. Dewan Md. Salauddin Babu (Dhaka-19), Alhaj Tamiz Uddin (Dhaka-20), along with reserved seat MPs Nipun Roy Chowdhury and Ferdousi Ahmed attended the meeting. Dhaka District Council Administrator Yasin Ferdous Murad, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdur Rafiul Alam, and Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Tariqul Islam were also present.
