Rabindra Srijonkala University officially launched a dedicated skill development platform named "CANVAS" (Center for Arts, Networking, Vocational and Applied Skills) on Sunday to foster career-oriented technical skills and bridge the gap between academia and industry.
The platform was inaugurated during a ceremony held at the university’s Uttara campus in the capital on Sunday afternoon, in the presence of Rabindra Srijonkala University Board of Trustees Chairman Robin Khan.
Designed to supplement formal academic education with practical workplace training, CANVAS aims to support students and young professionals in career planning, skill enhancement, and professional excellence.
The initiative is debuting with five short-term professional courses tailored to current industry demands across ready-made garments, artificial intelligence, and electronic media: Apparel Merchandising, Fashion Merchandising, AI-Augmented Content Development, AI-Augmented Software Development, and News Presenting, Reporting, and Speaking. Additionally, the center plans to run a comprehensive Career, Employment, and Entrepreneurship Development Program to prepare students for job markets and business ventures.
"Through CANVAS, students will gain the practical skills required in professional life alongside their academic knowledge. This initiative will also strengthen university-industry collaboration while empowering youth as skilled employees and future entrepreneurs," stated Board of Trustees Chairman Robin Khan.
The inauguration event was attended by Acting Treasurer A. K. M. Delwar Hossain, FCMA, Registrar Md. Monirul Islam Rintu, and CANVAS Director and Director of Finance and Accounts A. K. M. Mashiur Rahman, alongside course coordinators, faculty members, and senior university officials.
