Promote bamboo as alternative to timber in furniture making: Rizwana
News Desk
Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Sunday emphasised the need to promote bamboo as an alternative to wood in furniture making citing its availability, rapid growth, and eco-friendliness.
“Pressure on timber is increasing day by day. We must reduce this pressure by exploring sustainable alternatives like bamboo,” she said while exchanging Eid greetings with officials and staff at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on the first working day after Eid-ul-Azha.
She urged ministry officials to work with renewed commitment toward environmental protection.
Rizwana instructed the Chairman of the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation to take necessary steps to enhance bamboo-based furniture production.
She also underscored the need for developing bamboo processing technologies and innovating modern products through the Bamboo Research Centre.
“By producing modern, durable, and aesthetically appealing bamboo furniture, we can not only meet local demand but also create opportunities in the international market,” she added.
Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed, additional secretaries, heads of affiliated departments and agencies, and other ministry officials were present at the event.
