Locals have held a press conference accusing Jalal Uddin Sarkar, Convener ofNojarpur Union BNP and former UP chairman, of extortion, assault, and harassment of ordinary people.
On Wednesday, 8 October, a press conference was held in the Sutapatti area of Narsingdi town, where victimized farmer Md. Farid Sarkar read out a written statement.
At the press conference, the victims alleged that Jalal Uddin Sarkar had shared benefits with the Awami League during Sheikh Hasina’s regime and even took blessings from former Awami League MP Nazrul Islam Hiru to run as a dummy candidate in elections. Currently, under the name of the BNP, he is allegedly involved in extortion, land grabbing, and criminal activities in the area.
They further claimed that if anyone refused to pay him extortion money, he labeled them as Awami League supporters and subjected them to various forms of torture.
Earlier, following multiple allegations of extortion, assault, and harassment by Jalal Chairman, the activities of the Nojarpur Union BNP Committee were suspended by the Upazila BNP. Despite that, the so-called “Jalal Bahini” continued to commit incidents of extortion, intimidation, land grabbing, and assaults one after another, according to the victims.
Among those present at the press conference were Altab Hasan, Md. Shajahan, Amzad Hasan, Asad Mia, and other locals of Nojarpur Union.
