National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders and activists have taken over the three-story Awami League building and started their party activities by hanging their own signboard. This incident has sparked a wave of condemnation on social media, with many local residents expressing their strong disapproval.
On Saturday (May 10), the Awami League office located on College Road in Charfassion Municipal Town of Charfassion Upazila, Bhola, was occupied. On-site observations revealed that NCPC leaders and activists were using a microphone on the roof of the building to make announcements. At the same time, they were holding a meeting under the banner “Preparatory meeting for the banning of Awami League.”
Local sources reported that after the fall of the Awami League government, the office of the Upazila Awami League was vandalized and set on fire. Furniture was looted as well. Since then, the building had been left abandoned. Nine months after the fall of the government, the NCPC took over the building on Friday.
The takeover was led by NCP's Charfassion Upazila representative, Ahmed Faisal. He stated that local NCP leaders—Amjat Habib, Nure Alam Nasim, Sharif Hossain, and Md. Shahabuddin—participated in the takeover. He further added, “From now on, all party activities of NCPC in Charfassion will be conducted from this office.”
A local freedom fighter reacted to this incident, saying, "Awami League is the party of independence. For the first time in 54 years of independence, another political party has occupied the Awami League's office and started their activities. This is unprecedented and disgraceful in history."
