Eviction drive led by UNO to free canal in Kalapara

An eviction drive has begun led by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to free a government canal from illegal occupation in Kalapara, Patuakhali.
The operation commenced at 12 PM on Sunday with the demolition of seven illegal structures erected by occupying parts of the canal in the Orphanage and Rahmatpur areas of the municipal town.
During the operation, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Yasin Sadek, members of the "Amra Kalapara Bashi" organization, senior officials of the municipality, and leaders of various social organizations were present.
UNO Md. Robiul Islam stated, “Notices were issued to 14 individuals a week earlier giving them time to remove the illegal structures voluntarily. As they failed to comply, the municipal authority and upazila administration are now demolishing the structures. In phases, a total of four kilometers of the canal will be cleared of encroachments.”
He further said, “Earlier, people used to encroach the canal banks; now they are occupying the entire canal. These illegal structures will be removed, and both sides of the canal will be reinforced and beautified. A project proposal has already been submitted for this purpose.
