Joint Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal  Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, said that all necessary measures will be taken to prevent erosion of the Padma River in Faridpur.

 She added that once the BNP comes to power, one of its first initiatives will be the construction of a permanent embankment to protect the area from river erosion.

She made these remarks while inaugurating the geo bag dumping work filled with sand to prevent erosion of the Padma River in the North Channel Union of Faridpur Sadar Upazila, where the riverbank has been severely affected on Monday. 

For a long time, the erosion of the Padma River has caused four to five villages in North Channel Union to disappear into the river. Hundreds of families have lost their homes and property, many taking shelter on roadsides or in rented houses. Locals had long demanded urgent action to save the remaining villages from being engulfed by the river.

After the issue came to the attention of Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, she visited the erosion-hit area on Monday morning  along with officials from the Water Development Board and residents of North Channel Union  together, they inaugurated the geo bag dumping work over an 86-meter stretch of the eroded riverbank.

The event ended  with  special prayer.
