The 50th death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated at Dhaka University on Thursday through various programs. On this occasion, this morning, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university placed wreaths at the poet's tomb and recited Fateha.

Later, a discussion meeting was held on the open stage in the premises of the poet's tomb under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani spoke as special guests in the discussion meeting. Director of Nazrul Research Center Prof Dr. Tariq Manzoor delivered a memorial speech. Chairman of the Bangla Department Prof Dr. Sirajul Islam (Siraj Salekeen) conducted the program.

The university's proctor, principals of various halls, acting registrar and Khilkhil Kazi, granddaughter of national poet Kazi Kazi Nazrul Islam, were present at the time.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam paid deep tribute to the memory of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and said, his life and literary works teach us to protest against injustice. They teach us to speak out against discrimination, injustice, oppression and oppression in society. We also learn from Nazrul's literary works to maintain a strong unity among ourselves by maintaining equality, harmony and peace. He was a man of many qualities.

Teachers and students of the music department performed Nazrul Sangeet at the event. In addition, a Quran recitation was held at the central mosque of Dhaka University, Masjidul Jamia, after Fajr today to mark the death anniversary of the national poet.
