Microbus driver arrested while trying to abduct bloodied elderly man in Palash, he later dies in hospital

Local people have detained microbus driver Monir Hossain while trying to abduct a seriously injured and bleeding old man in Bhagdi area of Palash upazila on Narsingdi-Ghorashal road.
Local people detained microbus driver Monir Hossain while he was throwing a dying old man out of the microbus in a secluded place in the said area on Wednesday morning. Later, he was thrashed and handed over to the police.
The arrested microbus driver, Monir Hossain, is the son of the deceased Jalil Hawlader of Chirapara village in Banaripara upazila of Barisal, he said. The name of the rescued old man is Ripon Mia (55). He is a resident of Keraniganj in Dhaka, Palash Police Station said.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the microbus driver was trying to stop a microbus on the side of the road in Bhagdi area and drop off a bloody and seriously injured old man. When the matter came to the attention of the locals, they caught the driver red-handed. At that time, the angry crowd thrashed him and immediately informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, Palash Police Station reached the spot and arrested the driver. The dying old man was rescued and taken to Palash Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
During the initial interrogation, the driver, Monir Hossain, claimed that 4/5 people had put the old man in a car in front of a gas pump in the Gabtoli area of Dhaka while he was dying. According to them, he had picked up the old man in the car with the intention of taking him to the hospital. However, fearing trouble from the police on the way, he decided to leave the old man in that secluded place in Narsingdi.
Palash Police Station OC Shahed Al Mamun said, "The old man was rescued in a life-threatening condition and sent to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead." The accused driver has been arrested. He is being interrogated. Details will be announced later.
