Martyr Zia initiated first state reforms in Bangladesh : Rahmatullah

Masud Rana, Barisal Bureau

BNP National Executive Committee member Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah stated that martyr Ziaur Rahman was the one who initiated the first state reforms in Bangladesh.

On Sunday   as part of a four-day program to observe the martyrdom anniversary of martyr President Ziaur Rahman, organized by the general leaders and activists of BNP in Barisal city’s Ward No. 25, Sadar Upazila’s Shayestabad, and Tungibaria Union, separate discussion meetings, prayer ceremonies, and food distribution events were held on the third day. Rahmatullah made these remarks as the chief guest at these events.

During the events, Rahmatullah said that martyr President Ziaur Rahman introduced multi-party democracy, ensured press freedom, and revitalized the fragile economy, transforming Bangladesh into a self-reliant nation through state reforms. He noted that those in power before Zia had turned the country into a "bottomless basket."

He further stated that constitutional rights, voting rights, political rights, and even religious rights were curtailed, undermining the aspirations of the Liberation War. Martyr Ziaur Rahman rescued the people of the country from that situation.

Rahmatullah added that over the past nine and a half months, under the guise of interim reforms, the government has left people disappointed. The aspirations of the 2024 mass uprising have not progressed due to the government’s lack of practical experience.

In Ward No. 25, the event was chaired by Mahanagar Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Hazik Daiyan Ishtir. Attendees included Mahanagar BNP member Zahidur Rahman Ripon, Mahanagar Sechchhasebok Dal Joint Convener Milan Chowdhury, Mahanagar Chhatra Dal Vice-President Obaidur Rahman Ujjal, and Swadhinata Forum Mahanagar Member Secretary Nazmus Sakib, among others. The event was moderated by Mahanagar Chhatra Dal leader Yusuf Ali Bappi.

In Shayestabad Union, the event was chaired by Union BNP leader Hemayet Hossain Murad. Attendees included Acting Union Chairman Samsul Kabir Farhad, District Chhatra Dal Vice-President Asif Al Mamun, and other leaders and activists. The event was moderated by District Chhatra Dal Vice-President Elias Ahmed.

In Tungibaria Union, the event was chaired by BNP Joint Convener Anwar Hossain Mridha, with other union leaders and activists present. The event was moderated by Chhatra Dal leaders KM Monir and Zahidul Islam Shakil.
