JU female students protest failure to identify attempted rape suspect

Female students at Jahangirnagar University (JU), under the banner of the Women's Safety Platform (Nari Nirapotta Manch), staged a protest on Tuesday to denounce the authorities' failure to identify or arrest the suspect in an attempted rape and murder case, 75 days after the incident.
The protesters expressed deep frustration, alleging that none of the six-point demands submitted to the administration following the attack have been implemented. They vowed to continue their movement until structural security reforms are enacted.
The protest rally, held in front of the university's Administrative Building, was moderated by Anika Tabassum Farabi, a student of the Department of Anthropology.
Addressing the gathering, Farabi said, "Nearly two and a half months have passed since the incident, yet law enforcement agencies have failed to identify the attacker. During this period, several other incidents of harassment and violence against female students have occurred on campus, raising fresh concerns about the university's security arrangements."
Soma Dumri, a 51st-batch student of the Department of Archaeology, alleged that despite repeated claims by the administration that steps have been taken, not a single point from their charter of demands has been fulfilled.
Speaking at the program, Naziha Binte Shamsuddin, a 52nd-batch student of the Department of Economics, asserted that the crisis of women's safety on campus is structural rather than isolated.
