The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026 was observed in Faridpur with a colourful rally, a discussion meeting, prize distribution, and a cultural program.

This year, the day was marked under the global theme, "World drug problem: ongoing crisis, new challenges and innovative solutions."

To mark the occasion, a vibrant rally was brought out from the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises at 9:00 AM on Thursday (June 26).

The rally paraded the main thoroughfares of the town before concluding at the Kobi Jasimuddin Hall. Representatives from the district administration, the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), various government departments, law enforcement agencies, alongside students and citizens from all walks of life, participated in the march.

Following the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the Kobi Jasimuddin Hall, where Faridpur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mazharul Islam graced the occasion as the chief guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sushmita Saha presided over the function.

The event was also attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Golam Azam, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, Government Rajendra College Principal Professor S. M. Abdul Halim, District Education Officer Bishnu Pada Ghoshal, and DNC Faridpur Deputy Director Shirin Akter, among other local dignitaries.

Addressing the discussion, the speakers emphasized that a coordinated effort involving families, educational institutions, social organizations, and the law enforcement administration is essential to protect the younger generation from the devastating clutches of drug addiction. They also stressed the critical need for raising widespread public awareness, strictly enforcing anti-narcotics laws, and building a united social resistance against drug abuse.

The day's events concluded with the distribution of prizes among the winners of various competitions, followed by a cultural performance.
