Journalists hold human chain in Srimangal : Withdrawal of case against journalists including Ehsanul Haque, impartial investigation demanded

A human chain and protest rally was held in Srimangal, Moulvibazar, to protest the case filed against journalist Ehsan Bin Muzahir (Ehsanul Haque) and journalists at the Cyber Tribunal. Journalist leaders demanded the withdrawal of the case and an independent, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident from the program organized by the Srimangal Press Club on Thursday noon.
The rally was chaired by Srimangal Press Club Member Secretary Rubel Ahmed and chaired by Press Club Convener Syed Abujafar Salauddin.
The rally was addressed by Desh Panthapura's Moulvibazar correspondent Ismail Mahmud, Press Club joint conveners Abuzar Babla and Kawsar Iqbal, columnist Syed Amiruzzaman, Daily Ittefaq's Srimangal correspondent Syed Sayed Ahmed, Anandabazar Patrika's correspondent M Muslim Chowdhury, Daily Sangram's Srimangal correspondent MA Rob, Daily Karatoya's Srimangal correspondent Nur Mohammad Sagar, Amadre Kantho's Shaker Ahmed, Business Bangladesh's Srimangal correspondent Mizanur Rahman Alam, Bangladesh Pratikan's news editor Amjad Hossain Bachchu, Daily Uttar-Purpobkon's Srimangal correspondent Mamun Ahmed and Shomro Alo's Srimangal correspondent Shamsul Islam Shamim.
It is learned that reports were published in various media outlets alleging various irregularities and corruption against Dr. Cynthia Tasneem, the former Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Srimangal Upazila Health Complex. A case was filed against journalists Ehsanul Haque and Manju Bijoy Chowdhury in the Cyber Tribunal on October 25 for publishing these reports. This incident has created concern and anger among the local journalist community and conscious citizens.
They said that in a democratic state, it is very important to ensure the freedom of the media, the right to express opinions, and the opportunity to publish information in the public interest.
The speakers called for an investigation into whether journalists are being subjected to any kind of intimidation, harassment, pressure or obstruction in carrying out their professional duties.
