In front of Dc’s Residence Vegetable Vendor Killed in N’ganj

In front of the Narayanganj Deputy commissioner's residence, vegetable vendor Jiban Das (60) from Bandar Upazila was fatally stabbed by muggers. His funeral took place on Wednesday (November 13) at the Dhakeshwari crematorium.
The victim, Jiban Das, was the son of the late Muktalal Das from Lakshankhola in Bandar Upazila's 25th Ward. He sold vegetables at the Chourapara Somobaria Market. The mugging incident happened early Tuesday morning on the road in front of the Deputy commissioner's residence, near Khanpur Ice Factory.
According to eyewitness Masum Mia, also a vegetable vendor, they sell vegetables at the Chourapara Somobaria Market. As usual, around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, they left from Siddhirganj's Chowdhury Bari Stand by auto-rickshaw to purchase fresh produce from Digubabu Market in the city. Just after they passed KillarPul in Hajiganj and reached the Deputy commissioner's residence, two muggers on a motorcycle blocked their rickshaw and began taking their money.
Masum gave his money immediately, but Jiban hesitated, which led the muggers to stab him in the leg. Jiban was taken to Khanpur Hospital in critical condition, from where he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Sadly, he passed away early Wednesday morning while under treatment at a private hospital.
Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police, Pratyush Kumar Majumdar, assured that those involved in the crime would be apprehended soon and face legal action.
