To understand the joys and sorrows of the island’s people, you must be a resident of the island, said Engineer Tanvir Uddin Rajib, a member of the District BNP. 

He made this comment at a discussion meeting with journalists in Hatiya.

Those who have previously represented Hatiya Island were not permanent residents of the island. Many of them considered themselves from Hatiya because their ancestors were from there. However, they have failed to bring about any real improvement in the standard of living for the people of Hatiya.

He further said that the main problem of Hatiya is river erosion. No one has seriously worked to solve this problem. Everyone has only done showy politics regarding this issue. He said he would take realistic steps in this regard and that he has the opportunity to do so.

As the chief guest in the meeting, he also said that he has already participated in several post-Eid street meetings in Hatiya. In these street meetings, he is working to build public support for the implementation of the 31-point plan given by the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The discussion meeting was held at a Chinese restaurant in the upazila headquarters on Wednesday noon.

 Former Office Secretary of the Upazila BNP Rafiquddin, former Member Secretary of the Upazila Jubo Dal Abul Bashar Hawlader, former Organizational Secretary of the Municipal BNP Abul Kashem, former GS of Hatiya Island Government College Zaker Uddin Parvez, Lecturer Mohibbur Rahman, District Sramik Dal member Abul Kashem, Master Zahedul Islam, Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Institute of Glass and Ceramics Chhatra Dal Amirul Islam Tushar, Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Arefin Ali, Municipal Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Shamsul Arif Rustam, and President of Hatiya Island Government College Chhatra Dal Babor Ahmed, among others were present. 

At that time, journalists from various print and electronic media working in Hatiya were also present.
