Human chain demanding withdrawal of case against BNP leader

A case has been filed against a BNP leader of Kaikuri Union in Pirgachha Upazila of Rangpur on charges of extortion.
The president and general secretary of the same union BNP have been made witnesses in the case.
To protest this, a human chain was held at Chaudhuri Bazar on Saturday afternoon . The human chain demanded withdrawal of the case, arrest of the plaintiff and taking organizational action against the two BNP leaders who were witnesses in the case.
Speakers at the human chain organized under the banner of 'People from all walks of life of Kaikuri Union' said that there has been a long-standing land dispute and lawsuit between Union BNP Vice-President Saidul Islam and his foster brother, the alleged saint Zillur Rahman.
Recently, Zillur Rahman attacked Saidul Islam and stabbed him due to that dispute. In this incident, Saidul Islam sought justice from Union BNP President Harun Or Rashid Bablu, General Secretary Munsur Ali Member and other upazila BNP leaders, but instead of getting justice, he filed a case against Saidul Islam in Zillur Rahman Court on May 8, accusing him of demanding Tk 5 lakh as ransom. The two top BNP leaders were made witnesses in the case.
Speaking at the human chain, Saidul Islam, Union Volunteer Party Senior Joint Convener Saiful Islam, former Chhatra Dal district member Aynal Haque, Ward 6 President Jamal Uddin of Kaikuri Union, Ward President Ataur Rahman Ata, member Dalu Mia and others.
Saidul Islam said, I was a candidate for the post of Union BNP General Secretary. After losing by a small number of votes, I am now looking to contest the Union Parishad elections. For this, one conspiracy after another is being hatched against me. I am demanding a trial for the attack and an impartial investigation into the case.
Harun Or Rashid Bablu, President of Kaikuri Union BNP, said, "I do not know the case in which I have become a witness. I have not decided whether I will testify or not. A human chain was formed before that."
Upazila BNP president Aminul Islam Ranga said, "This is basically a family dispute. Our union committee president and general secretary do not know that they have been made witnesses in the case. So they will not go anywhere to testify."
