Human chain demanding steps to solve waterlogging problems in N'ganj
Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj
A human chain and memorandum submission have been organized to demand the resolution of waterlogging in Muslimnagar, Nabinagar, Shashangao, and West Masdair areas of Fatullah in Narayanganj. The event took place on Sunday noon in front of the Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Office premises. Following the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Dr. Abul Hossain said, “We have long been suffering from waterlogging. Fatullah is an industrial area, and the population is increasing day by day. However, the drainage system has not been developed accordingly. On top of that, the canals have been illegally occupied in various ways, which causes year-round waterlogging. We can’t even go to the mosque for prayers. Children can’t attend school. We urge the administration to take prompt action on this issue.”
Similarly, on behalf of the locals, Abdul Momin said, “We face waterlogging throughout the year. The canals in our area have been illegally encroached upon. As a result, we can’t get relief from the waterlogging. During the monsoon, it becomes almost impossible to live in this area. We are requesting immediate intervention from the district administration.”
Upon receiving the memorandum, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia stated, “We will look into the matter. We have already taken the initiative to renovate five canals. If we can fully restore these canals, the waterlogging situation will improve significantly.”
