Human chain demanding relief from waterlogging in Rajarhat
Rajarhat (Kurigram) Correspondent
Sime 25 affected families formed a human chain in front of the Rajarhat Upazila Parishad on Sunday morning demanding relief from waterlogging.
It is learnt that a local named Abdur Razzak blocked the mouth of a box culvert in Devicharan Mouza of Rajarhat Sadar Upazila. Due to this, 25 families living upstream of the box culvert experienced waterlogging due to light rain. The affected families organized this human chain after they applied to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer on June 3 but received no response.
Shariful Islam, a participant in the human chain, said that Abdur Razzak blocked the mouth of the culvert a few years ago, showing the influence of the Awami League. He did not take the objections of the locals into consideration at that time. Victim Anju Begum said that 50 sapuri trees and 20 chai trees were damaged due to waterlogging.
UNO Al Imran said that the matter is regrettable. The upazila administration will work with utmost sincerity to resolve the problem.
