Former MP from Barguna-2 constituency Golam Sarwar has passed away. (Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un).
He died while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM Hospital in the capital on Tuesday at around 1:30 am.

Begum Nur Afroz Hepi, wife of Golam Sarwar and former chairman of Kalmegha Union Parishad, confirmed the matter.

According to family sources, he had been suffering from various physical complications due to old age for a long time. When his physical condition deteriorated, he was admitted to BIRDEM Hospital in the capital. The former parliamentarian breathed his last while undergoing treatment there.

Golam Sarwar Hiru was born on 30 August 1949 in a respectable Muslim family in Kalmegha Union of Patharghata Upazila of Barguna. He was a popular and well-known face in the field of politics of Barguna. He became known in national politics by being elected as a member of parliament from Barguna-2 constituency as a candidate of Islami Oikya Jote in the 7th National Parliament election of 1996. Earlier, he was elected with the symbol of rice sheaf in the 15th February 1996 election of the 6th National Parliament. He also served as the Chairman of Patharghata Upazila Parishad and the Chairman of Patharghata Kalmegha Union Parishad.

In 2013, he participated in the by-election for the Barguna-2 constituency and came second with the symbol of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh, the hand fan. In the 2001 national parliamentary election, he came second with the symbol of the boat.

People from all walks of life in Barguna district have expressed deep grief over his death.
