Former councilor of Mirzapur Municipality arrested in murder of college student

Municipal Awami League vice-president former councilor Abdul Jalil Khan has been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of Emon, a college student who participated in the anti-discrimination student movement in Tangail's Mirzapur.

He was arrested from his house in Postkamuri Charpara village of ward number 1 of the municipality on Thursday (October 3) night. He is the former councilor of that ward and the president of the Municipal Development Committee led by former MP of Tangail-7 Mirzapur Constituency Khan Ahmed Shubo.

Earlier on Wednesday night in the same case as an anonymous accused, Mirzapur Municipality Ward No. 1 Awami League President Md. Arif Mia was arrested.

They have been sent to Tangail Jail through the court.

During the anti-discrimination student movement, the highway police station was attacked and set ablaze on August 4. Meanwhile, college student Emon was killed by the police.

In this incident, Emon's elder brother Sumon became the plaintiff, former minister Dr. Abdur Razzak, former state minister Ahsanul Islam Titu and former 7 members of parliament, including 157 names, filed a murder case against 400/500 people in Mirzapur police station.

Abdul Jalil Khan and Arif Mia have been arrested as unknown accused in this murder case, police said.

Mirzapur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Salahuddin said that the college students admitted to being arrested as unknown accused in the Emon murder case and said that they were sent to jail through the court.
